Selene is a supporting character I’m working on for a book that I’m just beginning to write. The story is an Urban Fantasy that revolves around a Wizard searching for knowledge and artifacts.

Selene is an Amazon whose training has left her with very strong warrior skills, but her mind is broken. Someone (brother? sister? someone else?) rescued her before she could be euthanized, so the Amazons are searching for her. She knows something that the Amazons don’t want her to reveal.

Physically, Selene is slender and small, with pale skin, brown hair, and big brown eyes. She has the slender musculature of a ballerina.

She tends to wear dresses that look a lot like hospital gowns, and is usually barefoot, which emphasizes that sense that she’s just escaped from a hospital ward somewhere.

Selene is superb at anything that requires hand-eye coordination. It is amazing that she is so good at hand-to-hand combat – it’s as if she knows how her opponent will strike before it happens. She is also quite clever, but nobody expects it from her.

Selene is highly empathic. It’s unclear if this is due to a psychic or magical ability. She also has flashes of paranoia (but is it paranoia if they really are out to get you?) but usually tends to wander around like a three-year-old child, gazing in wonder or terror at everything she encounters.

Selene’s style of speaking is enigmatic. She can switch from mundane to profound in mid-sentence. She normally has the sentence structure of a kindergartner, but occasionally drops in college-level words and concepts. All while plucking pedals from daisies or field stripping a handgun.

Selene’s attention always seems to be somewhere in a world of her own. What is she really listening to or looking at? Does she see the future, even a little bit? Is she haunted by ghosts? Are the voices she hears inside her head, or in some magical realm?

Any comments about this character? Suggestions?
